Straight to the Top: LWP Partners with HubSpot

A few months, a man contacted me by the name of Jake Basil. He’s a HubSpot representative who caught word of our agency and decided to contact us. Initially, I thought this might be your typical sales call. You know the “Hey! How are doing? Have you heard about our (insert product here) program? We think you’d be a great candidate for…” As far as I knew, he was trying to get us to upgrade our HubSpot subscription, but that’s the thing.

I wasn’t aware that HubSpot offered a particular type of support to its agency subscribers, especially those who had the potential to grow and help other companies using HubSpot’s platform. After that call, a meeting with myself and Light Wings Promotions (LWP) Marketing Director, Mark Rubio, we closed on a deal.

And who wouldn’t, really? I mean, we’re talking about the people who practically coined the phrase “inbound marketing”. To this day, they are the leading influence on all things inbound. It’d be crazy to turn this down, because the amount of value they give is monumental. Especially in a world where common knowledge is being well guarded by high-priced retainers, justified by lies and deceptions.

Guilty. Much of my research in digital marketing started with HubSpot. It’s a straightforward way for anyone to get a taste of what it means to be a marketer in the modern age, and the best part is that it’s free. You don’t have to pay them to teach you anything. And sure, maybe the knowledge they supply is only surface level, but it’s enough to use it as a springboard into a much larger world. You can’t really expect them to teach you everything, can you? No single marketer markets the same, nor does one strategy fit every business (If anyone is telling you otherwise, their either f–king insane or lying to your face).

Secret sauce… Come on. There’s no such thing. It’s all about how you apply the theory of inbound and its methodology. You have to follow the rules! And yes, there are universal rules to digital marketing, practices and procedures that encompass all areas of the field. Why do you think it’s so important to become a “T-Shape” marketer? It’s because the rules apply to everyone, all across the board!

Every process needs to be reliable. Simple enough. And how do you determine whether or not a process is reliable? You validate the results by replicating them. It’s third grade science. Literally. Its scientific method. Problem solving. It really is that basic.

Define a problem, propose a solution, test it, record your results, adjust and repeat, until the results improve themselves. That’s what we do here at Light Wings Promotions.

If there is anything about digital marketing that’s important, it’s that process makes perfect. If you’re an agency owner, like me, that’s probably the most important thing you’re going to hear today.

So, yeah, partnering with HubSpot was the right move. Because they set the stage and it’s up to us to figure out how to perform. We may all have different methods and process for doing social media, SEO, PPC, email marketing, optimizing page load speed, UI/UX etc. but one thing remains universal, it’s a science. And the thing about science, especially in a field so new, like digital marketing, there’s always more to know, more to learn, and what works today may not work tomorrow.

So, the next time you think about purchasing that Facebook Ad or PPC course from that guy who’s unique selling proposition is that his process is pretty much better than that other guys process over there, remember that digital marketing strategies depreciate just as much as any other technology. There will always be a newer model or more innovated process in the works.

Not to say those kinds of investments are necessarily bad; but really, how many of those people do you see working constantly on innovating or improving their product? Frankly, not many.

So choose your partners wisely. Take that from a guy who has spent thousands learning from a variety of different sources. Every single process I’ve tested and tried out broke, eventually. It’s just a matter of when. That’s why I think partnering with HubSpot is going to be so cool because innovation is everything. And I’m okay with that, because I like what I do.

If I wanted financial freedom, I’d have it. But I want more than that. I want to make a real impact doing something that matters, like every person should. And I think that kind of drive makes a marketer truly elite. You’re on the top of your game, every day.
